Year 10 English
At the preparation stage of VCE, Year 10 students are expected to learn how to analyze the novels, movies, and various styles of literature, understanding how and why evidences or ways of expression are used to demonstrate the authors’ intentions and power of writing/movie production. The studying resources are mainly selected from the mainstream media such as news papers, TV reports and features, famous movies or plays, novels on the VCE lists, being intended to prepare students for the later VCE stages. In the second semester of Year 10, novel reading will be integrated in the curriculum, helping students to lengthen their reading lists and enhance their ability of literature appreciation. The novel recommended is from the VCE novel lists, which help students be familiar with the literature they are going to study in VCE stages and improve their skills of literature appreciation. Year 10 English is currently taught by a VCE assessor who is quite familiar with students’ weak areas in VCE exams from the experience of VCE exam paper marking and thus knows very well what skills should be targeted at the stage of preparation.
Math Method 1&2, taught by a senior VCE math teacher, is offered in Year 10. Making good use of the multimedia facilities at site, the math teacher presents the relevant courseware by topics, and hardcopy notes will be handed out for students’ reference. Apart from face-to-face learning commitment at school, students are also required to do some homework to consolidate what they have learnt on weekends.
